The Fox Chapel area offers plenty of opportunities for residents to get outside, enjoy the weather — and spend time with one another.
Summer Around Fox Chapel From Parks to Outdoor Events
Green space is a defining feature in this part of the county. Each community has several parks; there are 10 in Fox Chapel Borough alone. Allegheny RiverTrail Park in Aspinwall may be the crown jewel; the riverfront spot hosts a wide range of activities throughout the summer, including a Summer Concert Series on its “Front Yard,” an open lawn area. A marina, dog park, walking paths and river views make it a favorite destination for both residents and visitors.
Community gardens in Aspinwall, Blawnox and Sharpsburg also become active during the summer, bringing neighbors together to plant, grow and maintain green spaces. The Lauri Ann West Community Center also hosts additional summer programs and events, while nearby Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve offers trails, nature programs and educational activities for families throughout the season.
From Outdoors to Indoors: Local Growth in Food Access
Elsewhere in Fox Chapel, Sharpsburg is no longer a food desert. Harvest on Main is a newly opened grocery store on Main Street. It offers a wide variety of fresh produce, prepared foods, and other groceries. This year marks a milestone for Sharpsburg. The borough celebrates its bicentennial. Events and activities are planned throughout the year to honor the town’s 200-year history. They bring residents together through celebrations, historical programs, and community gatherings. The District Association continues its mission to culturally enhance and beautify Aspinwall, Blawnox, Fox Chapel, Harmar, Indiana, O’Hara, and Sharpsburg.
