Get the Facts: There’s More to Pittsburgh Public Schools Than You May Know

Few decisions matter more to a family than choosing a school. With so many messages competing for parents’ attention, Pittsburgh Public Schools is asking families to take one simple step before they decide: Get the facts.

Get the Facts About Pittsburgh Public Schools

Every day, thousands of students across Pittsburgh walk into Pittsburgh Public Schools and find opportunities that reach well beyond the traditional classroom. Early childhood education, advanced academics, career and technical education, athletics, the arts, world languages and specialized student supports give PPS families a depth of programming that’s hard to find anywhere else.

As the District moves forward with its Future-Ready Facilities Plan, the Get the Facts campaign invites families to learn more about what PPS offers today and what it’s building for tomorrow.

More Opportunities. More Offerings. More Support.

As the second-largest school district in Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh Public Schools brings families something that comes with size: more offerings and more opportunity.

Students can start in early childhood classrooms and continue all the way through graduation, with academic programs that fit a wide range of interests, strengths and goals.

At PPS, students can explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics; pursue the arts; play athletics; study world languages; take advanced coursework; and get ready for careers through hands-on Career and Technical Education programs.

They’re also supported by a network of teachers, counselors, social workers, nurses, specialists and other professionals dedicated to their success.

Because learning depends on more than what happens during class, PPS also provides supports that help remove barriers for students and families, including free breakfast and lunch for every student.

That’s the PPS advantage: more opportunities, more pathways and more people working together for every student.

Preparing Students for What Comes Next

The world students will graduate into is changing fast. Pittsburgh Public Schools is changing, too.

The District is focused not only on where students go to school, but on what they experience once they’re there.

Through the Board-approved Future-Ready Facilities Plan, PPS is working toward a more consistent educational experience from school to school, with clearer K–5, 6–8 and 9–12 grade configurations and broader access to programs and opportunities.

For elementary students, that means stronger access to STEAM, world language and library. Middle school students will gain more access to STEAM, world language and advanced coursework, including a pathway to Algebra I in eighth grade. High school students will continue to have access to strong academic, career, arts and extracurricular opportunities that prepare them for college, careers and life after graduation.

The goal is simple: a student’s ZIP code should not determine the quality or breadth of their educational opportunities.

A District Full of Possibilities

There’s no single path to success, and PPS doesn’t offer just one.

Some students find their passion on a stage or in an art studio. Others discover it in a science lab, on an athletic field, in an Advanced Placement class or while learning a skilled trade.

Career and Technical Education lets students build real-world skills and explore career pathways while still in high school. Magnet and specialized programs give families additional options. Advanced academics challenge students who are ready to go further, and academic and student support teams make sure students get help when they need it.

All of it is available within one public school system, right here in the City of Pittsburgh.

PPS knows families have questions, especially as the District begins implementing the Future-Ready Facilities Plan.

That’s why getting information straight from the District matters more than ever.

District resources also offer information on the approved Future-Ready Facilities Plan, school programs, enrollment opportunities and upcoming changes.

The message to families isn’t simply, “Choose PPS.”

It’s this: Know what you’re choosing. Explore the programs. Ask questions. Compare the opportunities. Get the facts.
