The History of the Mellon Park Terraced Garden in Pittsburgh
Fancy a stroll in the Mellon family’s backyard? Portions of Mellon Park in Point Breeze were once part of the magnificent Mellon property. The beautiful Terraced Garden, installed in 1910, was once the front entrance to the family’s estate. Long after the city recieved the land, the Terraced Garden served as a rose garden; the Friends of Mellon Park are working to preserve it. Make the short walk over to the famous Walled Garden to see the Stewartia tree, native to Japan — its white flowers bloom each June — and admire the park’s century-old fountain..
