Wash, a ‘clean’ laundry service, brings its brand of eco-friendly laundry and dry-cleaning services to Aspinwall.

It’s a new location and name for the former North Hills-based Duro, which has been pickup-and-delivery-only for the past year. Owner Joe Ferrante was eager to put down roots closer to home and have more face time with customers.
“I missed the sense of community that retail provides. I’m a Mayberry kid,” says Ferrante, who grew up in Oakmont and lives in O’Hara.
Ferrante has joined the trend away from cleaning with perchloroethylene, which is being phased out by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a possible carcinogen, and instead uses a corn-based solvent, SolvonK4, which is kinder to clothes and to the planet. “It cleans just as well as the old ‘perc,’ and leaves no residue,” he says.
Ferrante’s production facility in Cheswick also has the technology to wet-clean the most stubbornly stained clothes. “If we can’t clean it,” he says, “it can’t be cleaned.”
Besides everyday apparel, including leather garments, purses, and shoes, Wash provides kid-glove care to wedding gowns and heirloom-quality linens. It cleans rugs, curtains, and other home goods. Storage for patio cushions is also available.
Wash has kept some of Pittsburgh’s most famous icons looking spiffy, like Kennywood’s Kenny Kangaroo and Parker the Arrow, the Penguins’ Iceburgh, Freddy the Flame from Peoples Gas, “and hundreds of Easter bunnies,” Ferrante says.
The shop sells plant-based laundry detergent and linen/home sprays, as well as cedar planks for closets, collar stays, and potpourri sachets and soaps handcrafted by Ferrante’s wife, Sarah Thimons, under her Poured Provisions label.
