Pittsburgh Community Events June 29-July 5

Pride in the Park

June 29, Aspinwall

Pride Month is almost over — but there’s one more great community celebration to attend! Pride in the Park in Aspinwall is a youth-focused event designed to connect LGBTQ+ young people and families. Enjoy arts, crafts, games, drag bingo and story hour, craft vendors, resources, music, book and clothing swaps and plenty of food!

Lunch Pail Lecture: Modern Nature: France and New Definitions of the Natural, 1860-1900

July 2, The Frick Pittsburgh

Step back in time to 19th-century France and explore the natural world through art and literature. Pitt Professor Giuseppina Mecchia will discuss the works of naturalist writer Emile Zola, whose writing explored the French landscape, women’s lives during the revolution and painters such as Gustave Courbet and Edouard Manet. Bring a bag lunch or grab food from The Cafe ahead of time.

East End Pub Run

July 2, Bakery Square

Get in some exercise before the long weekend with a run around Bakery Square! Pick your loop — 3 or 6 miles — with a group, beginning at Fleet Feet. Then stop by City Kitchen with your running crew and get a discount on your first draft!

HOT Jam Fireworks, Glass Center

July 3, Pittsburgh Glass Center

Get in the mood for Saturday’s fireworks at the Pittsburgh Glass Center. Enjoy barbecue, s’mores and drinks while enjoying the lovely view on the patio. Friends and family can play games outside before heading indoors for glass blowing demos and a look at the Glass Center’s exhibitions.

July 3, Penn Avenue

Pittsburgh’s longest running art crawl returns to Penn Aveue to fill galleries, shops and small indoor and outdoor spaces. Wander between the 4800 and 5500 blocks and enjoy art, dance, vendors, food and more in Bloomfield and Garfield.

Painting with Paul

July 5, Spirit

The Lawrenceville hotspot Spirit is not only a concert venue, pizzeria and bar — it’s also a rooftop garden. Spend some time above the dance floor and paint with Spirit’s in-house gardener. Attendees can buy a paint kit, pizza and drinks and let their creative energy flow; art supply proceeds benefit the garden. Plus, there will be a garden swap activity for those looking to share and gain tips for growing the perfect plants.
