Pittsburgh Community Events in the East End July 20-26
Cinema in the Park: Miracle
July 20, Highland Park
It’s 1980 and coach Herb Brooks is tasked with leading a team of temperamental, angsty college hockey stars to win the Winter Olympics. The U.S. team faces off against the Soviet Union in Miracle, both a timeless sports film and a symbol of American patriotism during the Cold War. Watch the film, which rolls at sunset, on the lawn in Highland Park.
Date Night Make-It-Now
July 24, Pittsburgh Glass Center
Heat up your date night at the Pittsburgh Glass Center! Couples will create a one-of-a-kind fused charcuterie plate during studio time while enjoying small bites, wine and beer. At the same time, glassblowing and flameworking demonstrations will ignite in the background.
Summer Fridays at the Frick
July 24, The Frick Pittsburgh
Spend a summer night on the Frick lawns with live music, food trucks, art and activities for all ages. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs to set up with your family and friends and enjoy the Frick’s historic structures, gardens and architecture. The theme for this edition is “Plaidtastic Polka Party,” featuring the remixed polka sounds of Pittsburgh’s own Polkamaniacs.
M.E.L.T. With Special Guest Jack Swing
July 25, The Sanctuary at Mr. Smalls
Pittsburgh-based psychedelic rock band M.E.L.T. is headlining The Sanctuary at Mr. Smalls on Saturday evening for a special anniversary show and live recording. The band — Joey Troupe on guitar, James May on bass and J.J. Young on drums (and all three provide vocals) — is known for electrifying, high-energy shows. Special guest Jack Swing will open the show.
OpenStreetsPGH
July 26, Strip District and Lawrenceville
Get moving — whether on foot, bike or skates — in the open streets of Lawrenceville through the Strip District. Organized by BikePGH, this free event opens miles of city streets for the enjoyment of people rather than cars. Explore the neighborhoods at your own pace, take part in free fitness classes and pop into local shops and restaurants along the route.
An Evening with Joe Avati
July 26, Kelly-Strayhorn Theater
Joe Avati serves comedy with Italian dad vibes. This family-friendly show is coming to Kelly Strayhorn Theater for one night only; laugh along with Avati as he takes you through a trip down memory lane of his life growing up with Italian immigrants in Australia.
